Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why should I consider replacing my boiler?

Most people replace their boiler due to age, inefficiency, frequent repairs, or  outdated technology. A new boiler can offer improved energy efficiency, reliability,  and often lower utility bills. If your current boiler is over 10–15 years old, it may be  worth considering a replacement.

2. How do I know which type of boiler is right for my home?

There are three main types of boilers:
  • Combi Boilers: Our most popular choice! Compact and efficient, they  provide hot water on demand without needing a storage tank.
  • System Boilers: Suitable for homes with more extensive heating needs,  system boilers use a storage tank to store hot water.
  • Conventional Boilers: Ideal for larger homes with high hot water  demands, conventional boilers require a cold-water storage tank and a hot water  cylinder. We can assess your home’s size, hot water usage, and heating needs to help  determine the best type.

3. How long does it take to install a new boiler?

A straightforward boiler swap (same location and type) usually takes one day.  However, if you're moving the boiler, switching to a different type, or making system  upgrades (like adding radiators), the installation may take 1-2 days.

4. Do I need to prepare anything before installation day?

Before installation, ensure the area around the existing boiler is accessible, with any  personal items removed. We may need to turn off your water or heating temporarily,  so plan accordingly. We are happy to discuss any potential preparation steps with  you before the installation starts.

5. Will I need to upgrade my gas supply for a new boiler?

Sometimes, yes. Newer boilers often have higher efficiency but may require a larger  gas supply pipe. We will assess this during the survey and inform you if an upgrade is  needed.

6. How much does it cost to install a new boiler?

Costs vary depending on the type of boiler, installation complexity, and your  location. Expect prices ranging from £2,000 to £5,000 for typical residential  installations. For complex installations, the cost may go higher due to labour, parts,  and upgrades needed.

7. Can I install a new boiler myself?

No. Boiler installation must be carried out by a licensed professional, such as a Gas  Safe (UK) engineer, to ensure safety and compliance with local building regulations.

8. Are there any warranties on new boilers?

Most new boilers come with a manufacturer warranty, typically ranging from 5 to 10  years. Be sure to register your warranty with the manufacturer and note that  warranties often require annual servicing by a certified professional to remain valid.

9. What is the best time of year to install a new boiler?

Spring and summer are often the best times, as installers have greater availability  and you’re less likely to experience heating interruptions. However, if your boiler is  unreliable or non-functional, replacing it sooner is better.

10. Will a new boiler improve my home’s energy efficiency?

Yes, modern boilers are designed with higher efficiency ratings, typically over 90%.  This can reduce your energy consumption and lower your bills. Look for a boiler with  a high-efficiency rating (e.g., A-rated models in the UK).

11. Do I need to service my new boiler?

Yes, annual servicing by a certified professional is essential to keep the boiler  operating efficiently, ensure safety, and maintain your warranty. Servicing also helps  catch any minor issues early.

12. Will my heating system need flushing when installing a new boiler?

replacing an old boiler, it’s often recommended to flush the heating system  to remove sludge, debris, and scale.

13. Can I move my boiler to a different location?

Yes, but moving a boiler to a new location within your home adds complexity and  cost to the installation. You’ll need to consider plumbing, gas, and flue requirements,  as well as local building regulations. We will be able to guide you through this  process.

14. What’s the difference between a high-efficiency and a standard boiler?

High-efficiency boilers convert a greater percentage of energy into heat, often  featuring condensing technology that recovers heat from exhaust gases. Standard  boilers are less efficient and waste more heat. High-efficiency models save on energy  costs over time.

15. Will I need new thermostats or heating controls?

Modern boilers often come with advanced controls that allow for better energy  management. While you may use your current thermostats, upgrading to smart or  programmable thermostats can optimize efficiency and convenience.
